Gay New York City
New York City is America's biggest city and is overflowing with culture and style, it is also one of most
popular gay destinations in all of the US. There has been a gay and lesbian scene here stretching back more than
one hundred years. Most gay travel to New York is centred in Manhattan, but now there are other regions to enjoy
such as Brooklyn which has developed a large gay community over the past few decades. But Manhattan still shines
above the rest with its first class shopping, dining, night life, and theater.
Seasonal Excitement
New York City is a popular destination any time of the year, though the summer months still attract the greatest
numbers of visitors especially from Europe. Fall can be a wonderful time to experience what's on offer and is
certainly a season with a charm all of its own. In winter it can be very cold and may even snow, but this can
create a warm and cozy feel when sitting in a bar or restaurant, of course Christmas is also a popular season to
spend time here.
Gay Events In NYC
There are a number of popular gay events and festivals that are spread throughout the calendar. New Year's Eve
attracts many gay visitors as does the Tribecca and NewFest Film festivals in late spring. There are a number of
different Gay Pride events held in various boroughs, the famous New York City event takes place in late June, while
in Brooklyn and Queens it is held towards the start of June. In the fall, Halloween is a very camp event with a
huge following.
It is useful to understand the layout of the city. It is comprised of five boroughs, of which Manhattan is a
narrow island in between the Hudson and East rivers. Brooklyn and Queens are on the western edge of Long Island,
just across the East River from Manhattan.
Transportation Around And To New York
It is easy to get around without having your own transport. It is better not to bring your own car or rent one
as the traffic can be rather severe as are the parking costs. The city has an easy to use and inexpensive mass
transit system.
There are many rail services as well as buses that can bring you here from all the major East Coast cities.
If you intend to fly in then you will land at one of the three airports that serve the population. JFK airport
is located in Queens, Newark is across the Hudson in New Jersey, and La Guardia is the closest to Manhattan.
